revised post: I stumbled into some issues with my plan A of a plant puzzle with my illustrator file ☺️ so to simplify some, scaled back the level of detail in the idea and went for a venm diagram color puzzle with my 2 clear acrylic pieces. I went to canal plastics earlier and got a couple 12”x12” pieces. I used the 1/4” pieces for the puzzle pieces to be easier to pick up and 1/8” for the puzzle outline /frame.
I used gouache to paint out the colors underneath, would like to replace with colored felt maybe? to make it more tactile fuzzy.
Will revisit the plant files in the future, maybe with some 1/8” maple 🙂
original post: This week in fabrication we’re focusing on Lasercutters and Measurements ❤ I reached out to my brother to ask for some of their family’s favorite regional trees & leaves. He’s trained as a landscape architect and is always having fun tree-iding with his oldest. Above are some illustrations I made off the list he provided / super fun! Excited to cut these into larger puzzle pieces soon. He also gave me one of my sister-in-law’s garden flowers like a Dinnerplate Dahlia or Strawflower. Maybe will make a 2x set out of 1/4″ Maple for the nephews at somepoint? After doing some research on non-toxic materials for making kids toys, I realize that I should preorder some material for a 2.0 version from one of the sites listed on the Fab Resources https://itp.nyu.edu/fab/resources/
Thinking for the first run as a test this soft teal from Canal Plastics? And gift the prototype plastic set to my good friend that helps with a farming initiative back in Bells Bend, TN.
